What is DevOps?

DevOps is a set of various tools, practices, and ideals that combine software development (Dev) and IT Operations (Ops) into a single unifying force. It allows for better collaboration between developers, operations teams, system administrators, and system engineers. Their streamlined goal is to continually provide a high-value software product to the customer at high speed while monitoring and improving the overall process than using traditional software and infrastructure management. 

What is PyCharm?

PyCharm is an Integrated Development Environment (or IDE) for the Python programming language. It is a cross-platform development environment that is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux. It provides a tool that integrates code analysis, graphical debugging, unit testing, and an integrated terminal that supports development on remote hosts and virtual machines. 

Introduction

In this article, we will be reviewing the Chef software, how it works, and why it is useful. We will also explore how it is helpful in DevOps. And then, we will install Chef on Ubuntu 18.04. 

Configuration management is the process by which a company or organization defines and tracks the state of its infrastructural resources. Encapsulated in those resources are both physical hardware and software. It is a means to ensure that when changes are made to a system, those changes are tracked, geared toward the ultimate predefined criteria of what state should be.

GitHub is a free repository hosting service, used as version control for web developers to download and push their code from their servers to other users.  In our previous article on Installing Git on Ubunto 18.04, we've instructed on how to add Git to your Ubuntu VPS server. We'll continue on and show you how to add and clone a repo from GitHub to your server.

What is Git?

Git is a distributed version control system (or VCS), typically used to track files changes. It was developed in 2005 by Linus Torvalds, the creator of the Linux kernel. Git’s primary use is to keep track of changes within source code during the software development process. Source Code Management or SCM was the primary reason for its creation.

Git is the most commonly used VCS (Version Control System) today. Git is a free distributed version control system used for tracking changes in source code during development. It is installed and maintained on your local system. It is designed mainly for orchestrating work among developers. But, it can also be used for tracking changes in any set of files.

What is Jupyter Notebook?

Jupyter Notebook is an extremely powerful open-source, web-based tool that facilitates the creation of documentation. There are many different avenues to provide technical documentation or demonstrations, but Jupyter Notebook makes it possible to embed visualizations and execute live code. It is useful to be able to utilize documentation to describe development concepts or planning, but providing working examples within documentation can be a more effective way of conveying information. This tutorial will cover how to install Jupyter Notebook on an Ubuntu 18.04 LTS server and connect to it remotely via an SSH tunnel.

GitHub has many exceptional uses, such as:

IPython is a robust Python shell that handles indentation, syntax highlighting, tab completion, and more. In this tutorial, we will cover how to install IPython and walk through how to make use of some features it makes available. Python provides a default REPL or shell for users to run Python code in real-time and see the results. While this default REPL is extremely useful, it does not handle things like indentation, syntax, or highlighting. This is where Ipython shines.
