For this study, we ranked the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. based on which are the best places for cybersecurity and IT careers. To do this, we analyzed the following variables with each respective weight:

  • Mean pay rates via BLS (25%)
  • Number of residents employed in cybersecurity or IT positions per 100,000 residents via BLS (25%)
  • Location quotient of cybersecurity and IT careers via BLS (20%)

For cities located in the same county, we only counted the largest city. Additionally, data for Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, were merged. To analyze the best cities for entry-level, mid-level, and senior-level careers, we solely looked at the salaries and open positions for that level.
