How to start a Nexcess website migration

Choosing a self-managed migration? Learn how to migrate free using our plugin.

1. Once your Nexcess services are activated, visit my.nexcess.net and log in.

2. Click on “Support” in the left-hand navigation and then click the “Request Migration” button in the upper right section of the screen.

3. Follow the three-step migration form, click “Submit,” and our specialists will contact you with additional details and scheduling.

Initial sync

We review your site’s data and special requests to identify potential hurdles. Our scope of data includes supported software versions, PHP versions, configurations, server data, DNS settings, credentials, and SSH keys.

Testing review

We test the initial sync. We enable caching, DNS, email boxes, and any additional requests. You and your team review your website to make sure it’s exactly the way you like it.

Final sync

We make requested changes and move everything into your new destination database. Nexcess verifies links, caching, images, cart, checkout, DNS, and core configuration.

Go live

Once everything is verified and ready to go, your migration support team will schedule a go-live date at a low-traffic time. All you have to do is point your domain at Nexcess!

Liquid Web migrations are exclusive to all Liquid Web server-based solutions: VPS, dedicated server solutions, cloud server solutions, and GPU hosting.

The time it takes to migrate varies based on your site’s complexity. You can make the process faster by using our pre-migration checklist.

Any type of site migration (URLs, domains, hosting) can impact your SEO. Because Nexcess maintains best-in-class speed and performance, your SEO performance may actually improve.

It depends on the provider. Some will charge you on a per-domain basis, others have a flat fee of hundreds of dollars. Nexcess migrates your hosting FREE.

If you are migrating multiple sites from a single host to Nexcess, a single migration can be submitted; however if you are migrating data from multiple hosts to Nexcess, we recommend submitting each site as a single migration ticket in the Nexcess portal. Learn how to do that here.

No, we migrate on a domain basis. No matter how large or complex your site may be, we create a smooth transition.

The only difference is the ecommerce data stored, such as customer and order information. As a PCI compliant hosting provider, Nexcess protects your ecommerce database from vulnerabilities as you migrate from one server to another.

If you’re moving from a SaaS hosted solution like Shopify, Squarespace Commerce, or Wix, you will need to export your data. Many SaaS providers won’t let you take the data that belongs to you. Nexcess will do everything possible to preserve your data, including your DNS record storage and settings.

Our support team can work with your developers and IT team to implement redirects. While we don’t do those automatically, we are happy to assist and collaborate.

We do provide BlogVault for self-service migration for WordPress sites, which copies all of the files of your site and the site’s database. But it is not a replacement for our website migration services. If only wp-admin creds are provided and migrations do not have SSH credentials then BlogVault will be used for site migrations.
