Lesson 2: How to Use the Course Builder to Add Lessons, Topics, and Quizzes
This video walks you through how to use the LearnDash drag-and-drop Course Builder to create and organize your course using sections, lessons, topics, and quizzes.
Getting Started
To begin, navigate to LearnDash LMS > Courses from your WordPress dashboard.
Click “Add New” to open a new course page. Here, you’ll:
- Add your course title (e.g., “Basic Spanish Course”).
- Include a course description or overview, which will be visible to visitors before they enroll.
- Use the content editor to add images, videos, or headings to enhance your course landing page.
Click “Save Draft” once your course title and description are in place.
Building Your Course Structure
Next, click on the Builder tab to start creating the structure of your course using sections and lessons.
- Sections act as containers for lessons. For example:
- Section: Family & Friends
- Lesson 1: Introduction to Family and Friends Vocabulary
- Lesson 2: Introduction to La Familia
- Section: Family & Friends
You can add additional sections the same way. For example:
- Section: The Body
- Lesson 1: Introduction to Body Vocabulary
- Lesson 2: Overview of Body Parts in Spanish
You can drag and drop sections and lessons to reorder them however you like, giving you full control over your course flow.
Adding Topics and Quizzes
Click the arrow next to any lesson to expand its details. From here, you can:
- Add Topics to break lessons into smaller chunks.
- Add Quizzes to check for understanding.
For example:
- Add a topic called Introduction to Grammar under a lesson.
- Add a quiz called Lesson Check under that same lesson.
You can even drag quizzes into specific topics if you prefer to assess learning at that level.
Creating a Final Quiz
You can add a course-level quiz using the “New Quiz” button. For example:
- Title it Basic Spanish Final Quiz to test learners at the end of the course.
Final Steps
Once you’ve outlined your course with sections, lessons, topics, and quizzes:
- Click Edit on any item to add instructional content.
- You can continue building and rearranging your course until you’re ready to publish.
