Creating Links and Buttons
[wp101 video=”links-buttons”]
In this tutorial, the instructor explains how to enhance your WordPress posts or pages by adding text links and buttons—key elements for improving navigation and guiding visitors through your content.
1. Creating Text Links
- Purpose: Link to useful external or internal content to avoid creating “dead ends” on your site.
- Steps:
- Copy the URL you want to link to (e.g., Wikipedia page).
- Highlight the text in your post where the link should go.
- Click the “Insert Link” button on the toolbar.
- Paste the URL and click Apply or press Enter.
- (Optional) Choose whether to open the link in a new tab—not recommended for accessibility.
- Editing: You can edit or remove the link later using the toolbar options.
2. Creating Buttons
- Purpose: Use buttons as visual calls to action, like directing users to another page or downloading a resource.
- Steps:
- Click Add Block, then search for and insert the Button block.
- Type your button text (e.g., “Learn More”).
- Click the Link icon and paste a URL, or type to search for a page/post on your own site.
- Select the destination from the list to create the button link.
3. Button Design & Customization
- Button Style: Choose between solid fill or outline styles (based on your theme).
- Alignment: Select the parent block to align buttons left, center, or right.
- Add Multiple Buttons: Use the parent block to insert more buttons side-by-side.
- Customize Appearance:
- Change text and background colors
- Apply a gradient fill (linear or radial, with adjustable angle)
- Adjust border radius for rounded corners
By the end of the video, you’ll be able to create both text links and buttons that connect users to other content, pages, or calls to action. In the next video, you’ll learn how to upload a PDF and create a downloadable button.
