Microsoft Licensing Requirements

Liquid Web provides various Microsoft licenses to customers, encompassing OS, MSSQL, and other products. While customers can bring their own licensing, certain stipulations apply per our agreement with Microsoft, governing available options.

Liquid Web offers a number of Microsoft licenses to our customers. These include, but are not limited to, the operating system, multiple versions of MSSQL, and various other products. Occasionally though, customers may want or need to bring their own licensing for Microsoft products hosted on Liquid Web systems. Our current agreement with Microsoft does attach some stipulations on what is available to our customers and what they themselves can provide.

First, we can only allow customer licensing on our Traditional Dedicated Servers. Our current licensing and agreement with Microsoft does not allow our customers to provide their own licensing on our cloud systems.

Second, any and all licenses that will be provided by our customers must be checked against Microsoft to ensure they meet the requirements we have in place. This will require our customers to provide us the key they will be installing on the server. We check the key against Microsoft’s database to ensure validity of the key. Generally, the license must be a “volume” type license to be used on our systems. If provided with a retail edition key then all Microsoft licensing must come from the same source and be provided by our customer.

Once we have checked the license for validity, we will update you with the results. As long as the key is able to verify against our requirements we will be able to provision and install the software utilizing the key provided by you. If there are any issues with the key we will forward this information to you for further review.
