How to Register a New Domain Name

Your domain name is your website’s unique address on the internet, and it’s the primary way customers will find you online. Getting the right name is a critical first step for your brand.

We’ve made the registration process simple. This guide will show you how to search for an available domain name and how to register it quickly and easily, all from your My Liquid Web account.

Prerequisites

  • A Liquid Web account.
  • A name for your new website.

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Log into your my.liquidweb.com account with your username and password, or sign in with Google SSO.
  2. On the left hand navigation menu, click Domains, then click Domains List.
  3. Click Register a New Domain at the top.
  4. Enter the website name (domain name) you would like to register and click Check Availability to see if the domain name is available.
  5. If the domain is available, you’ll see it at the top of the list. You’ll also see other top-level domain (tld) options listed (eg.. .net, .org, etc.). To select the domain name, click Add.
  6. Click Express Checkout to proceed to directly checkout or click Configure Domains if you want to customize the domain settings, including Auto Renewal, DNS Settings, and WHOIS Contact Information. (you can customize these settings later as well).
  7. Click Checkout to complete the registration order and add the domain to your account.
Known Billing Display Error
Please Note: During checkout, our cart may incorrectly show “monthly” billing for your domain registration. This is a display error. If set to Auto Renewal, you will be billed annually for your domain. We are working to fix this display issue and appreciate your patience.

Great question! Registering your domain is step one. To get your website online, you still need to:

  1. Point the Domain to Your Server: You must create DNS records (like an ‘A’ record) to connect your new domain name to your server’s IP address.
  2. Allow Time for Propagation: After you set up your DNS, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours for the new settings to spread across the global internet.

You can manage your DNS records directly from your my.liquidweb.com portal.

No, that is a display error in our cart. All domain registrations are billed annually. You will only be charged for your domain once per year. We are working to fix this display issue and appreciate your patience.

Yes. To protect you from accidentally losing your domain, we set all new registrations to auto-renew by default. We will charge the payment method on file shortly before the domain’s expiration date to ensure there is no interruption. You can manage your renewal settings at any time from the Domains List section of your my.liquidweb.com portal.

Your Personal Information Will Be Publicly Available
When you register a domain, your personal contact information (name, address, email) is required for a public directory called “WHOIS.” To protect you from spam and keep your details private, we provide WHOIS Privacy (ID Protection) for free with your registration. This service automatically hides your personal information from the public directory and replaces it with ours.

Domain registration does not automatically include email hosting. You can easily set up email by purchasing one of our Premium Business Email Hosting plans or by configuring a mail service on your own server.
