There are two potential problems when it comes to using your own mailserver and spam: spam email being sent to your account and spam email being sent from your account. The free program SpamAssassin can reduce how much spam email gets to your inbox. SpamAssassin assigns a score to each email you receive. Then, based on your settings, it rejects email that scores too high. The scoring is from 0 to 10, with 0 having the strictest rules and 10 having the most relaxed rules. It’s like a threshold: if you set the threshold to 5, emails that score 6 or higher will be marked as spam. We generally recommend starting at a threshold of 5, then adjusting as necessary. This article will show you how to enable SpamAssassin on a domain.

A certificate signing request (CSR) is information generated by your server that is necessary to apply for a SSL certificate. It contains information about your website, but it’s encoded. Instead of trying to learn the notation and encode a CSR yourself, the Cloud Sites control panel can do all that for you. All you have to do is enter your information.

To make sure you can restore your website if something goes wrong, you should have periodic backups scheduled. Sometimes you’ll want to manually back up a website in addition to your automatic backups. For instance, if you’re going to make large changes to the website, it’s a good idea to back up your website just in case something goes wrong. That way, you can restore an old version of your website while your developer figures out the problem. It’s also a good idea to create a backup if you’re going to make major changes to your server. We recommend downloading a backup right before you make major changes to your website. This ensures your backup has the most up-to-date website information. It’s easy to back up a website or even your whole server using Plesk!
