Migrate to Premium Business Email

Your complete guide for migrating to Premium Business Email. Covers preparation, backups, DNS changes, and post-migration steps for a seamless switch.

Follow these steps to migrate to our Premium Business Email. We discuss how to connect your older (source) email server to your new (destination) server. Complete these steps to ensure a smooth migration with minimal or no interruption in your email service.

Cancelling your source email server
Do not cancel your source email server until you have confirmed with all users that they have access to their email and that all messages are still in place.

Perquisites

  • Source email server or provider.
  • A Premium Business Email Plan.
  • Credentials for every mailbox you want to migrate.
  • The ability to update DNS for the domain you want to migrate.

Preparing for a migration

  1. Download our Premium Business Email Migration Details spreadsheet.
  2. Fill out the Migration Details spreadsheet with a complete list of email accounts you want to migrate from your current mail server (or service). For each account, include the source email address (or username) and its password, as well as the destination email address (or username) and its password.
  3. Create destination mailboxes on your new Premium Business Email control panel. See our articles on how to create mailboxes:
  4. Create a backup of your email from your source server so that no data is lost. Creating a backup will help if a mailbox doesn’t migrate correctly because of corrupted email messages.
  5. Verify the size of your current mailboxes. Make sure not to exceed your new mailbox capacity. Archive and download, or delete email on your source email server before proceeding.
  6. Notify your email users to not change their password until the migration process is complete.

You are now ready to migrate your email!

With your email data officially in Premium Business Email, only a few final steps remain:

  1. Review your migrated email in the Premium Business Email Webmail portal. If you notice any issues, or missing emails, you may need to pull your data again via IMAP, or reach out to Support via your previously opened case.
  2. If everything looks good, adjust your domain’s DNS to start receiving email to your Premium Business Email plan.
  3. Your users will need to reconfigure their preferred email clients. See our article for more information: Setup Your Email Client for Premium Business Email.
