Help Docs Content Management Systems (CMS) Magento Overview Installing Magento with cPanel

Installing Magento with cPanel

Easily install Magento on your server using cPanel. This guide shows you how to use the Softaculous installer to launch your store in minutes.

Magento is a content management system (CMS) that manages your website’s look and content. There are many CMSes to choose from: Magento is specifically designed for ecommerce websites. If you aren’t familiar with CMSes, check out What Is a Content Management System (CMS)? before installing Magento.

Installing Magento on your domain is simple at Liquid Web. The Softaculous Apps Installer in cPanel installs packages so you don’t have to download them and install them manually. Softaculous walks you through installing Magento, choosing some basic settings, and setting up your first administrator account.

  1. Log into your domain’s cPanel account. If your domain doesn’t have a cPanel account yet, read Creating a cPanel User Account first.
  2. On the home page of cPanel, scroll down to Software and click on Softaculous Apps Installer.

  4. Click on Magento and then click on Install Now.

  5. Choose the Version of Magento to install. We recommend the latest version to keep your site secure.
  6. If you have installed an SSL certificate on the domain where you’re installing Magento, choose https:// or https://www. in the Choose Protocol field.
  7. Make sure your domain is correct (you can choose to install on a subdomain), and decide which Directory to use for Magento. This determines the URL used to see your Magento site. The default is mysite.com/magento2.

    Tip:

To install Magento on mysite.com (instead of mysite.com/magento2), leave the In Directory field blank.

  8. For CRON Job settings, we recommend leaving these timings as they are. A cron job is a scheduled task, and this setting just tells Magento when to run the scheduled tasks.

  9. Under Site Settings, choose your Admin Path. This is the URL for managing your Magento site as an administrator.

  10. Create your Admin Account. This is how you’ll start making changes and editing your site. Enter a Username and Password, your First Name and Last Name, and an Admin Email you will check for Magento notifications.

    Password Security:

We recommend choosing a unique username (not “admin”) and choosing a strong password. If someone discovers your password, they have control over your whole site. See our article Best Practice: Creating a Secure Password for tips on creating your password.
