Help Docs Liquid Web Portal Domains and DNS DNS Management Adding IP Addresses to Your Server

Adding IP Addresses to Your Server

Sometimes, you require multiple IPs for security, reverse DNS, or performance. You can add up to 7 IPs to your Cloud Server, as outlined in this guide.

We understand that you may need more than one IP at any given time.  You may need to use additional IP’s to avoid attack, use different hostnames in your reverse DNS lookups, or speed things up and reduce the load on your server. Whatever the need, you can add up to 7 IP Addresses to your Cloud VPS for an additional fee. This article will walk you through the process of adding IPs to your server. If you would like to add IP addresses to your dedicated server, please open a case with our Support team (for help with opening a case, see Creating a Support Case).

The process is different depending on your server, to view the instructions for your setup, please choose from the below types:

Additional IP Address Justification

While you have the ability to add up to seven IP addresses, if you find that you need more, please create a Support Case and we will be more than happy to assist you. Please see our article Creating a Support Case if you need help contacting us.

Justification Process

If you need to request more IP addresses than offered through your hosting package (seven for Cloud, three for Dedicated Servers), there is a justification process that Liquid Web must follow to make sure that the request is valid. Below is an outline of our justification process. Please review before requesting additional IP addresses.

  • The site is SSL protected and requires a dedicated IP address.

  • Some top level domains, like the TLD .ru, require name servers to be on separate subnet identifier (/24).

  • There are multiple domains on a server, each can have a separate IP.

  • Liquid Web requires a list of 75% of the domains you are hosting as evidence for justification of obtaining additional IP addresses.

Why your request may be denied:

  • The request is for an IP with a different class C because of multiple domains on the server.

  • Dedicated IP’s for SEO purposes. See the Best Practices for Google to find, crawl and index your site for more information on legitimate SEO practices.

  • Dedicated IP’s for email services. See Google’s advice for best practices for bulk email senders.

  2. Click on the Networking tab.
networking tab in my.liquidweb.com
  1. In the IP Addresses block, you can see the IP addresses currently associated with the server and how many “slots” remain for additional IP addresses. Click Add another to add additional IP addresses to the server.

  1. Select the number of IPs to add to your server and choose whether you would like to add them automatically or manually. Adding IPs automatically will cause an immediate server reboot. If you’d like to delay the reboot, you can add the IPs manually. For help with adding a manual IP in WHM, see Adding IP Addresses Manually in WHM. Click Confirm to add the IP address(es) to your server.

  1. Once you click the Confirm button, you can track the progress of the addition and the server restart in the Notifications section in your Liquid Web account.

To learn how to delete unwanted IP addresses from your Cloud VPS server, see our article Deleting IP Addresses from Your Cloud VPS.
