Manage License Activations and Connected Sites
Learn how to activate your plugin or theme license, connect sites to your subscription, manage active domains, move licenses between sites, and troubleshoot activation issues.
Prerequisites
Before managing license activations:
- Log in to the customer portal
- Confirm your subscription is active
- Locate your Unified License Key
- Confirm your subscription includes an available site slot
Activating Your Plugin or Theme License
License activation connects your WordPress site to your subscription and enables:
- automatic updates
- premium features
- access to supported add-ons
- license validation
Option 1: Activate Through The Setup Wizard
Most products include an onboarding wizard after installation.
To activate through the setup wizard:
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard
- Launch the setup wizard
- Enter your Unified License Key
- Enter the email address associated with your subscription
- Select the activation button
Once validated, your site is connected automatically.
Option 2: Activate Through Plugin Settings
If you skipped onboarding or need to reconnect a site:
- Open the plugin or theme settings
- Navigate to the License tab
- Enter your Unified License Key and email address
- Select the activation button
When activation succeeds, the status changes to Active.
Viewing Connected Sites
Each subscription tier includes a Sites Management section showing which domains are currently connected to your license.
To view connected sites:
- Open Subscriptions
- Select the subscription tier
- Scroll to Sites Management
The Sites Management section displays:
- connected domains
- activation status
- activation dates
- active site usage
The usage counter shows how many available site slots are currently in use.
Examples:
- 0 / 1 active = one available slot, none used
- 1 / 1 active = all available slots are used
- 2 / 5 active = three site slots remain available
Some environments may automatically display as Non-production or staging sites.
Connecting a Site to Your Subscription
If your subscription includes available capacity, you can connect another site directly from Sites Management.
To add a site:
- Open the subscription tier
- Scroll to Sites Management
- Select + Add Site
- Enter the domain URL
- Complete activation from the WordPress site using your Unified License Key
After activation:
- the site appears in Sites Management
- updates become available
- premium functionality unlocks automatically
Removing a Site from Your Subscription
Removing a site disconnects the license from that domain and frees a site slot for another activation.
Removing a Site From the Portal
Use this method if you no longer have WordPress access to the site.
- Open Sites Management
- Locate the domain
- Select Delete
- Confirm removal
Removing a Site From WordPress
If you still have WordPress access:
- Open the plugin License settings
- Select the sign out or deactivate option
The site status updates to inactive after synchronization.
Removing a site:
- does not delete plugin data
- does not uninstall the plugin
- stops premium updates and license validation
Moving a License to a Different Site
Moving a license simply means:
- removing or deactivating the old site
- activating the new site
Step 1: Deactivate The Old Site
In Sites Management:
- Locate the old domain
- Select Deactivate or Delete
- Confirm the site slot is freed
Step 2: Activate The New Site
- Select + Add Site
- Add the new domain
- Activate the license from the WordPress dashboard using your Unified License Key
The new site becomes active automatically after successful validation.
Understanding Site Limits
Each subscription tier includes a limited number of active site slots.
If you reach your limit, you can:
- remove an unused site
- purchase additional site capacity
- upgrade your subscription tier
Non-production or staging environments may not count against your total depending on the product configuration.
What Happens Next
Once a site is activated:
- premium updates become available
- add-ons unlock automatically
- license validation remains active
- update notifications appear inside WordPress
When a site is removed or deactivated:
- plugin functionality remains intact
- premium updates stop
- premium support access may be limited
Troubleshooting
My License Key Is Invalid
Extra spaces or hidden formatting characters are one of the most common activation problems.
Instead of manually highlighting the key, use the copy button from the customer portal when possible.
Also confirm:
- the correct email address is being used
- the subscription is active
- the site limit has not been reached
The Site Isn’t Appearing In Sites Management
Refresh the page and wait a few minutes for synchronization.
If the site still does not appear:
- confirm the license was activated successfully
- confirm the site is publicly reachable
- verify the site is using the correct Unified License Key
I Reached My Site Limit
Your subscription has used all available activation slots.
To continue:
- remove an unused site
- purchase additional site capacity
- or upgrade your subscription tier
The Activation Process Is Timing Out
A firewall, security plugin, or hosting restriction may be blocking outgoing requests to the licensing server.
Check:
- firewall settings
- outbound request restrictions
- plugin system status warnings
If necessary, contact your hosting provider.
The License Status Won’t Update
Refresh the license status from the plugin’s License settings page or perform a manual plugin update check from WordPress.
