Glad you're all here today. In the pre show, it's clear everyone has been working really, really hard. Seven questions.\r\n\r\nI will begin though with a couple of programming notes. First, we did make a couple updates on the gin calendar or pardon me the July calendar. You may have seen this. I probably got an email about one of them. But let me just tell you what's coming up for June. So first of all this week of the eighth of July. I meant July, not June. I will be at WordCamp Canada, so we'll not have any live streams this week. Other than office hours on Thursday that will happen as usual. Thursday, one o'clock Central. But we moved a couple things around here because WordPress 6.6 will drop unless something happens on July the 16th. So I will have Timothy on for the launch party there on the 16th Welcome to WordPress 6.6. And Timothy will walk us through that new version as he has done for the past several WordPress versions and that is really, really good.\r\n\r\nIt's really good always to get Timothy's perspective on the latest version. As a result, we moved news roundup from the Tuesday to the Wednesday here and we moved.\r\n\r\nKen Kathy Zant security webinar down to the 23rd. So just a little bit of shuffling here for the live streams here in the month of July. I also think I mentioned this last week, but I mentioned it again we now have the next several months of premium courses on the site and ready for registration. So WooCommerce bootcamp is coming up next week with Zack CPEC. He'll be with us Tuesday Wednesday from one to three talking about WooCommerce. Also, we have the two SEO live streams with Lindsey Halsey. This is an annual thing, where this year we're focusing on advanced SEO and the business of SEO, both in July and August respectively.\r\n\r\nAnd then Google Analytics boot camp with David Zimmerman, September 24, and 25th. So all of those are now ready for you to register. We don't have details, but you can register. Go ahead and get yourselves registered for that where it gets so the easiest way to see these calendar if you go to any of the livestream links here over here in the sidebar, there's a calendar view and that shows you the calendar, a calendar view of all the events that are there so you can flip through here. You can also add and subscribe to the calendar and so forth.\r\n\r\nPaul, do you get them add how do you get them added to your calendar. So you should if you subscribe to this calendar, particularly if you use Google Calendar, it works really well or the Outlook calendar with the ICS file. It's a way ICS works is it is a list of events that are there at the time you download the ICS. So if it updates, it's not going to automatically sync that's just the nature of an ICS. But if you are using Google or iCal or office 365 or Outlook live, these ones should connect you to the live what am I trying to say the feed from the calendar.\r\n\r\nRight don't know if I don't know why it hasn't updated. Stacy, I can't control any of this. But I don't know the answer to any of that. It should be updating. I don't know.\r\n\r\nYeah, so maybe deleted in resubscribe I'm not sure.\r\n\r\nNot sure what happened. Stacey did have you re subscribed to this calendar or are you subscribed still to the old we've been using it for had been using it for years. Google Calendar of the new one? Yes. I don't know. I don't know the answer to that.\r\n\r\nOh, Paul. None of this has your individual links. This is just the feed of events. So if you want your actual registration link, when zoom sends you the you just registered email, you'll need to add that to the calendar.\r\n\r\nYeah, so this subscription is just the event fee. This is from the events calendar. It doesn't have any specific zoom links.\r\n\r\nSo yeah.\r\n\r\nOkay. Yeah, there's not a way in events calendar that I'm aware of to give you any other kind of feed other than what I just showed you.\r\n\r\nOkay, so Paul, you're saying when you registered, you have the link.\r\n\r\nSo zoom should have sent you an update? I use MailChimp for just about everything.\r\n\r\nActive Campaign is a good one.\r\n\r\nI haven't used a Weber in many years. Gosh, does anybody use Aweber anymore? Ah, Sherry likes Campaign Monitor.\r\n\r\nStacy likes Aweber mailer Lite is another good one. Yeah, so just vote there in the chat. What are you using for your email list?\r\n\r\nMail poet is another good one. It is WordPress base which makes me a little nervous. Yeah, Paul is a keep fanatic.\r\n\r\nHe was really good. I think mailer light has a lower threshold. Or pardon me, you can it has a better free tier, I think than some of the others, right?\r\n\r\nYeah.\r\n\r\nYeah.\r\n\r\nSo Melanie's suggesting postmark with MailPoet. That's interesting.\r\n\r\nYeah, letting that's one of the concerns I had with mail poet and I've got a big like, I bought it on AppSumo a while back with a lot of users. I've never really used it.\r\n\r\nBut I was always concerned about their transactional email service.\r\n\r\nYeah, using it through postmark though is a good idea.\r\n\r\nI bet you're right. Active Campaign does have better automations it's a lot more crme than MailChimp. is\r\n\r\ngood. So here's the top ones.\r\n\r\nGood.\r\n\r\nOkay.\r\n\r\nBarney, any other details that you want to pull the books for on this or is that got you a good good list to get started with?\r\n\r\nOkay, all right. Next up is JC with me.\r\n\r\nAll right.\r\n\r\nI am almost complete in building a website with Beaver Builder after years of using Elementor Pro I just realized that I forgot to upload a child theme each header and footer are Astra, some CSS and customizer all the pages are built with Beaver Builder. I have a blank child theme I can upload do I need to export the customizer content and once I add the child theme, and then import the customizer content Okay, so this shouldn't impact anything you're doing with Beaver Builder because Beaver Builder generally works in the post content area.\r\n\r\nIt will impact your Customizer Settings as you've noted, so you'll want to absolutely export your Customizer Settings and import them. I don't know how this will impact the Astra Header Footer. I don't know\r\n\r\nbecause these because the Astra header footer is managed through the customizer, it probably relates to the child theme. So there is a\r\n\r\nthe brainstorm Force team which is behind Astra Yes, this one I would use just to be sure. I would use this exporter that is specific to Astra built by the Astra developers you can see the slug is even Astra import export, use this plugin\r\n\r\noh this is only for the Astra theme that's interesting. I think it works on other things too, to be honest. But anyway, I use this one and it should get all those headers and footers that Yeah, I noticed you're using the Astra theme here.\r\n\r\nSo I would use that. That particular plugin, you probably won't have an issue once you re import everything but obviously do a backup. First download it to your local computer. All those things that you know today.\r\n\r\nThank you of anything else that you'll run into it should be fairly straightforward. Once you get the Customizer Settings moved back in. Anybody else have advice for Stacey?\r\n\r\nLiterally do a backup. We all know that.\r\n\r\nDefinitely.\r\n\r\nAny other advice for Stacy?\r\n\r\nWhat could possibly go wrong?\r\n\r\nAll right. Next is Gene a gene.\r\n\r\nAll right.\r\n\r\nWe're adding video to a website. Do you know how to get a better display UX than the embeds from YouTube or Vimeo I'm looking for something that does not have branding and does not bring in other videos playing when it is finished the only workaround it's the only workaround hosting on the website server please don't do that. A client has a very good interview content to display that is professional and should be professionally displayed a few nice samples I'm trying to mimic are these Okay? So let's take a look at these and then I will endeavor to answer the question\r\n\r\nare you talking about these videos? Jean\r\n\r\nYeah, and it's pretty nice.\r\n\r\nI don't think I've ever seen that effect.\r\n\r\nThat is absolutely custom\r\n\r\nI don't even think this is what that is WordPress actually.\r\n\r\nThat's interesting. He see the\r\n\r\nvideo oh\r\n\r\nlet's Google ECVT.\r\n\r\nNo results that is interesting. I've never seen that particular effect\r\n\r\nis definitely a they're actually loading this from WordPress which is interesting\r\n\r\nthis is like this may be the developers slug\r\n\r\nit's something video testimonials looks like I like that. I'm interested in seeing what this may actually be.\r\n\r\nOther times you can google those CSS classes and come up with something that in this case no. Okay, so in this particular one, we've got a nice portrait oriented video that plays on scroll. I'd be interested to see if it's accessible. It doesn't look like it's very accessible.\r\n\r\nYeah, there's accessibility issues with that. You can't play it with the keyboard. Okay, the other one is this.\r\n\r\nWhere are our videos\r\n\r\nnot seeing any videos on this page.\r\n\r\nOr am I just being dumb?\r\n\r\nOh the background image video. Okay.\r\n\r\nYep. So, all right.\r\n\r\nYour question is getting rid of branding and and bring in other videos when it's finished. Okay, so we use Vimeo for this. And in Vimeo you can configure the player settings for the video. So that it doesn't put anything on the video at all. And so that's what I would do.\r\n\r\nSo you know, when we have a background video, you can go into that editor. Matter of fact, let me just try to log in and we'll take a quick look at that.\r\n\r\nMu immune Oh, that's not I need to get into a different browser session. Because I'm logged into the solid WP Vimeo\r\n\r\nand I'll just find a quick background video\r\n\r\nmaybe\r\n\r\nAlright, here we go.\r\n\r\nAlright, so here's the background video.\r\n\r\nAnd when you get into the video itself, there are player settings in Vimeo where you can go in and hide everything so that nothing shows up at all.\r\n\r\nYou can hide all the things, everything everything\r\n\r\nyou can I'm not sure why that's still showing up because it should be hidden anyway it does. It will not show when you showed us a background video. You can also set up presets like I have here that only shows certain things. This is the basic pro level account.\r\n\r\nYou can change the size of the player gene with whatever in better that you're using. So you know if you're dropping that in with whatever video player you're using to pull in that Vimeo player like in the Beaver Builder Video Player it's going to want an embed the core Beaver Builder video in better you would do see I want the there it is right in front of me. So here you can set you can set custom dimensions here and get the embed code but if you're using whenever we embed videos in Beaver Builder we use the power pack video and better and it goes out it has better settings for Vimeo anyway. So we use that. Yeah, so use the power pack video and better and that's going to solve that problem. And then you can use just set up your video with no no internet, no buttons or anything. And then you can use that as a background video on the Beaver Builder row as well.\r\n\r\nSo that's how we do that.\r\n\r\nDon't post on your server that now one thing you may encounter is depending on the video, you may find like a one second delay in the background video loading you can get around that by setting a background color of the row so that it loads a color first and then shows the video or you can the only other way to speed up the loading of a streamed video is to actually put the video out on some sort of CDN like Bunnie CDN or something like that. We don't do any of that but we do have I mean sometimes it takes a half a second in pop here comes the video.\r\n\r\nThat's another thing to consider.\r\n\r\nAnd yeah, so like Melanie say I have a single pro Vimeo account that I use for I have multiple clients in there and a bunch of other stuff.\r\n\r\nSo yeah, just put everything in my Vimeo account that doesn't. I never even get close to the monthly storage update up upload capacity.\r\n\r\nAll right. You get on that one gene. Any other questions? Anybody else want to chime in on that? Or have a question about something similar?\r\n\r\nOkey dokey next up also Jean.\r\n\r\nAfter adding Gravity Forms zero spam in the form settings. Should I turn off the anti spam honeypot or leave both on I'll leave both on it works fine.\r\n\r\nI mean, the more spam prevention the better. It doesn't interfere with Gravity Forms zero spam. So I figured you know why not? Just go ahead and turn that on to\r\n\r\nYep.\r\n\r\nAll right. Next one. Also Jean.\r\n\r\nAh, here's a conversation happening about this in the solid slack group. Okay, have you worked with the box module in Beaver Builder? It looks powerful, but the video tutorial course to learn how to use it as several hours.\r\n\r\nHaving only a slim grasp on CSS flex it is worthwhile. Is it worthwhile learning or should I stick with rows and columns? Okay, this is a great question. And Jean it is not just you their box module videos are not awesome. It is an incredibly powerful module. It is the future of layout with Beaver Builder, but I'm not sure I quite understand it yet.\r\n\r\nSo if you got into it, and you go on, I've watched this video and I still don't get it. You're in good company.\r\n\r\nChris, have you ever figured that out yet? I haven't figured it out. It still is not terribly intuitive to me how to do which things but honestly, I haven't spent a ton of time trying to learn it it's something I need to invest some time in. You There are yeah like Melanie saying there are other tutorials from other people out there on YouTube. You might take a look at that. But here's the thing. If you are a beaver builder user you definitely want to invest time to learn this. I just I haven't done it yet. So the reason being is if you look at the latest\r\n\r\nbuilder.com\r\n\r\nI'm sorry, Gina was saying box module. So it's the it's the same. We're talking about the same thing.\r\n\r\nSue it in the box. The box is very similar to the way Kadence does grid CSS in rows and so forth.\r\n\r\nLet's see if we can find where's the update? I think it's this one\r\n\r\nYeah, I think it's now I can't remember I can't find where or which.\r\n\r\nI can't I'm not sure which blog post it was then it was a recent blog post where they talked about Well anyway, the point is Beaver Builder is aware of you one of the big downsides of page builders are is large Dom's right the div tree that all these rows and columns and whatever create this tree of divs that then creates a very large HTML DOM structure that a browser then has to parse beaver builders aware of this, and in the coming versions, I didn't put a date on this yet, but it's in their pipeline they're working on this content designed with the box module is going to have an optimized div tree, meaning it's going to leave out all the giant nested divs to perform faster so that's really good. But that means we got to learn how to use box and I just haven't taken time to do that yet. I need to but so yeah.\r\n\r\nOh, that yes. In the summer I was referred to a client who wanted their HTML website rebuilt as their webmaster was retiring. I ended up transferring the files to my server the Domain Name Cheap. The board took too long to decide what they wanted for their new website. By the time I left for Florida in January, and during the four and a half months I was gone. The president of the board passed away my mind they met yesterday to discuss the rebuild I received an email it was decided that because of our dear Barry passed away, we don't know the future the project. Okay. Doesn't make sense to drastically change the website yet. David will send you updates for the website and broken links that need to be fixed. Yesterday I received an email from the new board president so I know they want to change graphics up their content, do something with videos, although I used to hand code HTML websites by 2000 They used to create Yeah, right. So it's, yeah, I you could Yes. So you could edit this website, but holy cow.\r\n\r\nOkay, how many of you have tried to go back and edit an HTML website that you built or somebody built years ago, after you've been in the CMS world for a while?\r\n\r\nI tried that.\r\n\r\nAnd I forgot like I have become dumber or something. I don't know what it's. The issue is I haven't done it in so long. I've forgotten to do all the things right. So you're 100% not alone in this, Stacy.\r\n\r\nI mean, I would probably go Dreamweaver for this. But you can also push back on them and say this is out of date and we don't even use the tools that you know, we used to create the site.\r\n\r\nIt's you know, Stacy, I think the first question is, do you really want to do this work? Oh, okay. So you did tell them that and what did they say?\r\n\r\nSo in whilst he is answering, it is 100% okay for you not to deal with HTML websites. That's your choice. And it doesn't make you any better or worse of a developer. It's a totally different platform. You know, if this client came in and said I want you to edit my Drupal website, I mean, Drupal is a whole other world. Yeah.\r\n\r\nYeah, so you want the rebuild done in WordPress. So that's, that's absolutely the way if it was me, I would say, you know, gosh, this was built back in the early days of the web, we don't even use these tools anymore. To make all these changes, like I would probably be willing to go in and make very simple text changes. But in any major note, sorry, this is really has to be rebuilt in a tool that we can support. And that'll be it. They can go find some if they don't want to do that they can go find a developer that's willing to do it.\r\n\r\nYeah.\r\n\r\nYeah.\r\n\r\nWell, that's a lot of fun.\r\n\r\nHopefully, they'll reply back positively, and at least let you do a basic upgrade and make a very simple WordPress site isn't a very large site, Stacy.\r\n\r\nYeah, yeah, that's tough.\r\n\r\nI will tell you this.\r\n\r\nI bet you\r\n\r\nare they are they just wanting to change out images and texts and update text? I bet you could get their whole list of changes just as it is. And as they supplied it, and put the links to the various pages in that whole document and just upload the document until chat GBT in the prompt. Go out and look at this page, grab the HTML code. edit the HTML code with these changes that are mentioned and spit and returned back to me the HTML code. I bet it'll do that\r\n\r\nI almost want to try that.\r\n\r\nThat would be that would be some fun AI training, wouldn't it?\r\n\r\nChris says no.\r\n\r\nThat sounds like such a great idea. When moving between? Gotta hate it when this happens? Yes. Okay. I have multiple profiles. And I'm often signing them more than one at a time. Yesterday, I was trying to download the Chrome extension mentioned in the webinar, but couldn't because Google kept switching me to a different profile. And that profile wasn't authorized for the store. I know I can log out Yeah, it's so freakin annoying. Anybody else? You? How many of you know exactly right now what Karen is talking about because I want 100% Do and oh my gosh, it's annoying. Yes. Oh my gosh. So Karen, the only thing I can tell you is like when it opens up in the new link, then you got to drop down your thing here and choose what what? You know what? User is on that tab. It's just annoying. It wouldn't let you do that. That's weird. So in that case, you may have to start a tab with that user signed in and then paste the link in. It's annoying.\r\n\r\nThe other thing you would have to do is create a different profile for just that.\r\n\r\nIt wanted you to enter so I mean it's annoying. You, you may want to you may just have to create a separate profile for just that user and log that user out of your other profile. And then when the page loads, you can flip the profile and that'll be signed in as that other account. It's annoying.\r\n\r\nI mean, there's no way that I'm aware of that. Make it any easier.\r\n\r\nYa, so she can't use a different browser money because it's a chrome. It's a Chrome extension. So it's got to be Chrome. Yeah.\r\n\r\nYeah, it's super annoying. I run into this all the time. Because I've got 8000 Google accounts between all the hats that I wear\r\n\r\nYeah.\r\n\r\nI don't think I helped you at all, Karen. I mean, the only like I say the only thing I would suggest is whatever account it is like you just had to create a new profile for that or that account separately. You can have a bunch of profiles. I have two profiles that I use. One is for solid stuff and one is for agency stuff. Yeah. I mean, it is frustrating. It really is.\r\n\r\nCare. Karen, did you say that you do have a separate profile for just that. account that you wanted to install the extension for?\r\n\r\nOkay, oh, okay. All right. So when I say profile, I'm talking about a browser profile. So like for example, this is logged in as my solid profile. If I want to pop down here to my my agency profile. Look, it's a different seats a different it's a whole different browser environment. Okay, so maybe that's what I mean by set up a profile. And like in this one, there's multiple, there's multiple Google users that are signed up on this one under this one, are signed in under that Chrome profile. Almost think about it like it's a sandbox, for that for this chrome environment for the users that are signed in there, but you can have a whole other sandbox for this other set of Google accounts. So try setting up Chrome Profiles, you can do that.\r\n\r\nJust click here and you can add a profile.\r\n\r\nYeah, give that a try. Because it does get maddening when you've got lots of different organizations. Yeah. 100% All right. Awesome, Paul. Hey, Paul is back. Yo.\r\n\r\nApple.\r\n\r\nAll right. Question regarding keeper. Is this something you can demo or answers? You just want me to show my my password manager on the screen, don't you Paul? Yeah, we know what's going on here. Okay. I've been using the Chrome extension for keeping the login. Yes, that's fine.\r\n\r\nHow does the MacOS application work instead of the extension? So that the two FA code works?\r\n\r\nOkay, I don't understand.\r\n\r\nI'm not sure I understand the question.\r\n\r\nSo you do have to authenticate separately because they are actually two different pieces of software.\r\n\r\nPlease don't Okay, good. Good.\r\n\r\nSo big even even if let's just say even if you're logged into the Mac desktop app, or the Windows desktop app, that login is different than your browser log. When I say different, it's a different session. Right? So you have even if you're logged into the browser, you might not be logged into the Mac App. Right.\r\n\r\nPolicy. I thought you said you run the program on your Mac and that keeper handles that for you.\r\n\r\nSo still not clear.\r\n\r\nSo keeper, I use the Chrome app. out there. Well, there I have a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox. That connects to keeper to fill passwords. I also have the Chrome desktop app. That's there. Just there. Right so yeah. So this is the part I don't understand. So you have the application on your Mac? Yes. And you need that to scan two factor codes.\r\n\r\nBecause the browser extension won't scan like the QR code that's used to allow chrome pardon me to allow keeper to fill in your two FA code? Is that what you're talking about?\r\n\r\nSo you use the MacOS application as your bucket to look up the two FA code when it's needed. No. So if there is a two FA code it will pop in. Like it'll the browser extension will fill that to FA code like the instead of using like Google Authenticator or something like that, right. That's what we're talking about, right.\r\n\r\nKeeper is its own two FA generator. It replaces something like Google Authenticator or Authy, or those things. It's all that's integrated into keeper and the browser extension will pull that to FA code.\r\n\r\nJust just like it fills a password it will fill that but you have to use the desktop app to actually scan the QR code to set up to FA the first time but then once it's set up in your login record, you can use the browser extension to fill it. Is that the enterprise plan? I think we are on the Enterprise plan but I think all of the plans support that.\r\n\r\nSo how do you say that to replace Google Authenticator? Um, let me see if I can.\r\n\r\nLike I can't really show this because it's let me do this create a new record. Login record. Demo.\r\n\r\nI don't even know that I can show this on the screen. I can't even show this because it's\r\n\r\nokay, yeah, I'll do this far. Okay. So this is a new record. This is the keeper Mac desktop app. And this is like I'm setting up a new record right? Down here is this ad two factor code. And I can tell it, I want to scan it. And then it gives me this movable window that you know, whatever. Site is showing me a QR code to set up the two FA code. It is there are so be aware that if you do that, when you load this page of archives, it's going to load 20 videos, that's going to be slow as Christmas to load those things.\r\n\r\nIf that doesn't matter, then yes, you can do it but it has to be done this way. You will have to have a custom field in your on the post that like let's just say this is a custom post type for whatever these videos are. There's a field in there that has your video URL.\r\n\r\nAnd that would and then when you're rendering the archive page, you'd have to do like a custom layout where you are instead of showing the featured image.\r\n\r\nIt would show the video embed instead like there's a bunch of work involved but it's totally possible\r\n\r\nDoes that make sense? Okay, what are using pagebuilder Kadence What are you using?\r\n\r\nKadence\r\n\r\nI don't know if you can do this in case.\r\n\r\nIt might be doable in elements and Megabox but like the way we found to do this is so for example, where are the videos embedding from YouTube or Vimeo or someplace?\r\n\r\nYouTube, okay. So what, what you would probably have to do is go grab the block or just like pick a video, get the embed code, right? And you'll see all the embed code and then there's that piece of the video that's V equals and then the video ID right? That you want to take that block and put that in place of the featured image. But the dynamic piece will be just the video ID so what I'm saying, so the client will then have to enter just the video ID. The reason you're gonna have to do that is if they just drop in the YouTube URL, it's not going to embed properly as a custom field. It's not going to drop in the the actual video embed. So you'll have to just do the ID that's the only way I know to do it.\r\n\r\nIf you're using something like Beaver Builder, you could use a like the power pack video module, which would let you use the actual URL to embed the video but in this case, that's not gonna be possible.\r\n\r\nYeah.\r\n\r\nOkay, this goes back to a bigger discussion of is that a good idea or not?
