Course Settings Overview
Now that your course outline is built, it’s time to configure how learners will access and move through your course using the Course Settings tab. This section gives you full control over enrollment, payment, prerequisites, and progression.
Course Access Settings
Define how users gain and maintain access to your course. Choose from several access types:
- Open: The course is completely free and available to anyone—no login or registration required.
- Free: Users must register and log in, but no payment is required.
- Buy Now: Requires users to log in and pay a one-time fee for access.
- Recurring: Access requires a recurring subscription. You can set the billing cycle by days, weeks, or months.
- Closed: No direct enrollment. Use this if you’re selling courses through an external eCommerce or membership plugin, or if you want to manually or group enroll users.
Course Prerequisites
Set up required courses that must be completed before a learner can access this one. Great for building learning paths or tiered course structures.
Course Points
Assign points for course completion or require learners to earn a certain number of points to unlock access to this course.
Course Access Expiration
Limit how long a user can access a course by setting a time period that starts from the date of registration.
Course Materials
Add supplementary content like:
- External links
- PDFs
- Video/audio files
These materials can help reinforce learning or provide reference content.
Course Certificates
Enable this setting to automatically award a certificate to learners upon course completion. You can choose which certificate to assign here.
Challenge Exams
Let learners test out of the course by passing a Challenge Exam. Choose which exam applies to this course from the dropdown.
Course Progression
Control how learners move through your course:
- Linear: Learners must complete content in a specific order.
- Free Form: Learners can access any lesson or topic in any order.
Why This Matters
These settings let you tailor your course delivery to fit your goals—whether you’re offering free content to grow your list or selling structured programs with gated access and certification.
Tip: Start with access type, then build out prerequisites and progression rules to match your course strategy.
