Group Leader Capabilities

This page outlines the capability changes available in LearnDash LMS > Groups > Settings, and explains what Group Leaders can do under each configuration.

Group management options are divided into Basic and Advanced capabilities:

  • Basic includes the core permissions required to manage assigned groups, courses, and users.
  • Advanced builds on Basic by adding permissions for managing content created by others, accessing private items, and performing higher-impact administrative actions.

Capability names are listed using their internal WordPress identifiers to help administrators understand exactly which permissions are applied when each option is enabled.

  • This will display a list of users enrolled in the Group Leader’s group or courses.
  • You can click on any user in the list to view their user profile.

Advanced capabilities:

  • list_users
  • create_users
  • delete_users

When configuring Group Leader permissions, choose the capability level that best matches the responsibilities you want to delegate. Basic capabilities are sufficient for most day-to-day group, course, and user management tasks, while Advanced capabilities provide broader administrative control and should be enabled with care.

After making changes, we recommend testing permissions with a Group Leader account to confirm the experience matches your expectations and internal workflows.
