Connect your WordPress Site to Solid Central

Manage your WordPress site remotely. Learn how to connect your site to Solid Central to enable automated backups, updates, and security monitoring.

Introduction

To manage your WordPress site effectively, you first need to connect it to Solid Central. Establishing this connection opens a powerful portal that allows you to manage essentially every aspect of your site—from backups and security to plugin updates—without ever leaving the interface. This connection is also the required first step if you plan to migrate or deploy a site between different servers (origin and destination). This guide will walk you through the simple process of connecting your site so you can unlock these features.

Prerequisites

  • A WordPress site that is reachable via the public internet.
  • WordPress Admin credentials for your site.
  • SFTP or SSH credentials for the server where your site is hosted.
  • Log in credentials for a Solid Central account.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to Solid Central.
  2. Click on Sites in the navigation.
  3. Click on the Add Site button.
  4. Complete the steps listed in Solid Central to connect your site.
  5. Once your site has been connected, you will be prompted to enter the SFTP/SSH credentials. This will verify the connection to the server ahead of starting the migration.

Next Steps

Now that your site is connected, you have unlocked the full power of the Solid Central dashboard. You can immediately secure your site using the Backups — NextGen tab or run a Site Audit to check your performance scores.

Most importantly, this connection enables you to move your site data seamlessly:

Deploy Changes Between Environments: If you need to push file or database updates from a Staging site to a Production site (or vice versa), use the Deploy button. Learn how to sync your environments in our guide on Deploying Your WordPress Site with Solid Central.

Migrate to a New Host: If you need to move your entire site (files, database, and domain) to a new server, use the Migrate button. Follow our guide on How to Migrate a WordPress Site with Solid Central to automate the transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Connecting is the required first step to use any Solid Central features. Once connected, you can manage updates, migrate, or deploy, run Backups — NextGen, monitor security, and perform Site Audits remotely without logging into the WordPress dashboard.

Solid Central communicates with your site using a connector plugin. When you add a site, this plugin is automatically installed (or you can install it manually) to create a secure link between your WordPress dashboard and the Solid Central interface.

No. The connector plugin is lightweight and only runs when you specifically request an action (like a backup, update, or audit) from the Solid Central dashboard. It does not slow down your site for your visitors.

Once connected, you will see options for both. Deploy is used to push data between two connected environments (like Staging to Production). Migrate is used to move your site to a completely new hosting provider or server.

Generally, no. Your site must be publicly accessible via the internet for Solid Central to establish the initial connection and perform updates.
