How to undo cancellation requests for Nexcess web hosting plans

Sometimes the life of some web projects ends. After careful and thoughtful planning, the moment comes to cancel the corresponding web hosting plan that you have in place with your web hosting plan provider.

At Nexcess, understand that this cancellation step may be a valid part of the lifecycle of your website for which you procured Nexcess web hosting. In this article, we will walk you through the factors involved with canceling a Nexcess web hosting plan — and also how to undo pending cancellation requests.

Things to consider before making a cancellation request for a Nexcess web hosting plan

Many cancellation requests for Nexcess web hosting plans have merit and should therefore remain in place after ordered. But what do you do if the submitted cancellation request for your Nexcess web hosting plan was premature or circumstances have changed since it was ordered?

You will be seeking whom at Nexcess to contact regarding the reversal of your cancellation order, or if can you undo the cancellation request yourself? If it is true that you can do it yourself, you will want to know the steps involved. All of this information, and much more can be found in this article.

What is the cancellation process for your Nexcess web hosting plan and how does it work?

When you purchase Nexcess web hosting, you purchase space on a server to which your website will be uploaded. If you apply for cancellation of hosting services, your data will be deleted from the server. So, it is crucial to consider all the details before applying for a cancellation. Here are the kinds of questions you should ask yourself before canceling a Nexcess web hosting plan.

Do I have enough time to undo the cancellation request?

Of course, hosting costs money each month that you have your Nexcess web hosting plan active, but please do not rush the process of turning off your website as there are important steps that you may omit if you move too fast.

For example, there may be important website data in jeopardy of losing that you will not be able to recover later, if you do not capture it ahead of the site shutdown date. We recommend that you plan all plan cancellations with ample lead time, having at least a ten-day window of time left to change your decision before final day. Nexcess web hosting will be canceled in the next monthly payment.

Do I have backups?

Imagine that you decided to change the hosting company or the project you were working on needs to be paused. Before canceling the hosting plan, think about what if the new hosting provider is different from what you expected or if you need to quickly bring live a copy of your current website from a backup copy.

The best option for a safe and fast recovery would be to have a couple of backups, even temporary ones. Keeping such backups is usually good practice until you know how operations and polices at your new hosting company work.

Ways to undo a cancellation request

There are two ways how you can undo a cancellation request:

  • Using my.nexcess.net in a self-service manner.
  • With the help of the Nexcess Technical Support Team.

Both are very convenient and will take you only a few minutes. Indeed, Nexcess has made the cancellation process very simple, as we all understand how necessary and urgent a Nexcess web hosting plan cancellation request can be.

Undo a cancellation request via Nexcess Panel

You can apply for cancellation using the self-service functionality inside the Nexcess Panel (also known as the Nexcess Client Portal):

1. Go to Plans area in the Nexcess Client Portal.

2. Click on the icon with three dots on the row for your corresponding plan and the click the Request Cancellation button.

3. After you apply for cancellation, the status of your plan will change to Pending Cancellation.

4. To cancel the application, you need to go to Plans and click on the icon with three dots on the row for your corresponding plan and click Restore Service.

5. The “Restore Service” action will only take a few seconds in the system, and your plan will be active again!

Undo a cancellation request with the help of the Nexcess Technical Support Team

A different situation may arise, and perhaps the first method will not be available to you. Again, the Nexcess Technical Support Team will come to your aid.

  1.  Nexcess Technical Support Team option #1: initiating a live chat session. The chat search takes only a few seconds, which is impressive. It remains only to explain your problem, which will be solved in a few minutes.
  2. Nexcess Technical Support Team option #2: creating a support ticket. The advantages of the ticket are that you do not need to spend time chatting or on the phone. You will be notified by mail as soon as your request is resolved.

What to do if your Nexcess web hosting plan has already been canceled?

If it’s a dedicated physical server, the hardware is typically decommissioned within a few days after the cancellation order goes through normally. However, the server data clearing time frame could be extended up to two weeks if the cancellation occurred as a result of non-payment. The data is wiped out after that extended grace period has passed.

There are more options available if you didn’t have a dedicated server. In these cases, the data is stored for around a month after the cancellation order goes through and can be restored during these 30 days if requested.

How to recover data?

If you want to recover data, you need to contact our Nexcess Technical Support Team.
