In this tutorial, we will review how Nexcess clients that are located on physical web servers (non-cloud) can subscribe to email receive notifications on bandwidth limits, disk usage limits, and SSL certificate expiration periods for these services.

Prerequisites

  • A Nexcess account on a physical server (non-cloud).
(The following information does not apply to Nexcess cloud accounts)

  • Login credentials for your SiteWorx account.
(If you do not know your password, you can click on the Forgot your password link on the portal login page.

Step by step instructions

  1. Log in to your SiteWorx account.
  2. In the main menu, click Preferences > Subscriptions.
  3. In the ‘Subscription Management’ screen, click the icon beneath the Action field to toggle the setting on or off for each Problem Detector. The image below shows us that all four detectors have been enabled, and an email will be sent when the noted conditions are met.

The image below shows us that all four detectors have been disabled, and NO emails will be issued when the noted conditions are met.

Notification

Notification emails are sent to the default email address for each Siteworx account that has the subscriptions enabled. These notifications will be sent from the support@nexcess.net email address when:

  • The disk usage threshold exceeds 80%

  • The bandwidth threshold exceeds 95%

Process

A cron job will run once every hour to determine if the thresholds limits have been reached. If a threshold limit occurs, a separate cronjob (that also runs once a day) will send an email notification. After a sustained threshold state is reached, an email will be sent once per day depending on the cronjob settings. The notification may be sent hours after the actual threshold breach due to the specific cronjob settings.
