How to configure custom nameservers in Nodeworx

Easily create custom nameservers in InterWorx. This guide walks you through setting up nameservers and creating the required A records in NodeWorx.

Introduction

Creating your own custom nameservers (e.g., ns1.yourdomain.com) is an excellent way to brand your hosting services and present a more professional image to your clients. While the process involves a few steps, it gives you greater control over your domain’s DNS.

This guide will walk you through setting up your private nameservers in the InterWorx control panel by specifying them in NodeWorx and creating the necessary DNS ‘A’ records.

Prerequisites

Step-by-step Instructions

  1. Log in to NodeWorx.
    • If you do not know your password, click Forgot your password on the login page.
  2. Specify the primary, secondary, and tertiary nameservers as necessary:
    • If  this is your first time logging in to NodeWorx, you will be prompted to specify Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary nameservers.
    • If you are not prompted to specify any nameservers, access the DNS Management page from the main menu: System Services > DNS Server > Overview.

  3. Click Update.
  4. After specifying your nameservers within Nodeworx, navigate to System Services > DNS Server > Zones to create A records for the nameservers.
  5. Click Records next to the domain name servers you registered.
  6. From the Add a new:  drop-down list, select A, then click Go.

  7. In the Host field, type the name of the primary name server you created in Stage 2, Step 2.

  8. Leave TTL field default as 43200 (see above).
  9. In the IP Address field, type the IP address registered with the name server.
  10. Click Save.
  11. If necessary, repeat these steps for your secondary and tertiary custom nameservers.
