GoDaddy’s fine print is costly
GoDaddy advertises pennies-on-the-dollar prices. But those prices require a multi-year contract. Paid in advance, of course.
When it's time to renew, you'll be paying more than you bargained for. Hosting prices double—even triple—and they itemize basic features. What was once free now costs hundreds more.
Liquid Web offers a GoDaddy alternative with stable monthly pricing and no renewal fees. We can even buy out your GoDaddy contract. Our all-inclusive plans will save you more time and money than GoDaddy ever will.
Once traffic hits, the upsells begin
A Liquid Web customer had an “unlimited” GoDaddy plan. After a traffic surge, her site crashed. GoDaddy told her to upgrade. Then, upgrade again. And again.
Daily crashes continued. She paid GoDaddy a grand total of $2,200 before switching to Liquid Web.
When your site is broken, you don’t need an upsell. You need a solution! With built-in autoscaling and WordPress experts on deck 24/7/365, Liquid Web makes sure your site stays online and running smooth—without the upsells.
GoDaddy’s ecommerce fees add up
GoDaddy doubles their WordPress rate if you want a WooCommerce plan. And if you want to use their in-platform payment service, GoDaddy takes 5.6% of your profit, plus 30 cents.
At Liquid Web, WordPress ecommerce doesn’t cost extra. Our WooCommerce plans start at the same price as WordPress, and we don’t charge extra transaction fees.
On GoDaddy’s basic WordPress plan, routine tasks feel like a chore. There’s no SSH access, no WP-CLI, and limited file access. They don't even include a CDN or staging.
Without staging, there’s no safe way to test or troubleshoot changes before going live. If something breaks, your only fallback is GoDaddy's weekly backups.
Without the right tools, basic tasks become bottlenecks. That's why Liquid Web includes free staging, daily backups, SSH access, and dev-friendly tools on managed WordPress plans.
Security takes a backseat
GoDaddy isn’t known for their secure business practices. Their lack of cybersecurity even triggered an FTC investigation in 2025. And it’s not hard to find out why.
GoDaddy data centers aren’t SOC audited, so there's no official security oversight. Basic plans lacks essential protections. If your site does get hacked, you can pay $400+ for malware removal.
In a time of rising cyber threats, security isn’t optional. Liquid Web provides plentiful protection for WordPress websites—all hosted at our SOC 3 type 2 audited data centers.
Please please STAY AWAY from GoDaddy. I'm actually sad at the amount of ads I see on TV and other places for their services—and how many people get trapped into their plans. Not only have I seen ridiculous prices in the past for what's included in the plans, but their server speed and WordPress performance is TERRIBLE. I've been a web designer for 7+ years, and GoDaddy has singlehandedly been the absolute worst and slowest host to deal with.
My clients have constantly had issues pop up with their WordPress website, and it's extremely annoying that they ban certain plugins from getting installed to your website. For example, you can't install most backup, caching, and security WordPress plugins due to "compatibility" issues with their network. (I've never seen this issue with other hosts.)
Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away!
