Navigating the new era of hosting with key industry insights

We recently released our 2024 State of the Hosting Industry Report, providing comprehensive insights and data on the evolving landscape of traditional on-site infrastructure, cloud technologies, and emerging trends in the hosting industry.

Based on a survey we conducted involving 500 director-level and above employees at mid- to enterprise-level businesses, the report highlights innovations such as edge computing and containerization while addressing challenges like talent shortages and data privacy concerns.

Key findings from the report include:

• 71 percent report that at least half of their architecture is hosted via the cloud, with 48 percent finding it challenging to optimize costs.
• 47 percent of decision-makers favor a hybrid hosting model for its adaptability.
• 61 percent of respondents have adopted serverless architecture, with 77 percent citing the potential for improved operational efficiency as a motivating factor in that decision.
• 89 percent of decision-makers use edge computing, with 55 percent reporting challenges in finding skilled employees.
• 68 percent of respondents express concern about data privacy compliance.
• 77 percent of decision-makers report leveraging multiple cloud providers to enhance flexibility, mobility, and workload optimization.
• 76 percent of businesses utilize containerization for efficiency, ease of management, and application modernization. Of the remaining 24 percent, over half reported a lack of competency on their existing teams as the reason for their hesitation.
• The use of on-premises data centers is on the decline. However, 40 percent of respondents stated they expect their company’s use of private data centers will increase in the next five years, citing recent performance and security improvements.
