Troubleshooting: Maximum Number of FTP Clients Reached with Cloud Sites

To make sure your Cloud Site has the highest performance possible, a single FTP user can't have more than 10 FTP client connections. When you hit this limit, you will see an error message.

To make sure your Cloud Site has the highest performance possible, a single FTP user can’t have more than 10 FTP client connections. When you hit this limit, you will see an error message:

530
Sorry, the maximum number of clients (10) for this user are already connected.

This doesn’t necessarily mean there are 10 different people using your FTP login credentials. If you are uploading large files, FTP clients like Filezilla open multiple connections to transfer your data faster.

If you are consistently hitting this connection limit, there are a few changes you can make:

  • If you are using Filezilla or a similar FTP program, lower the “Maximum simultaneous transfers” to less than 10.
  • Restrict the number of users who have access to your FTP username and password.
  • Coordinate with other people using your FTP username so they’re aware of the connection cap and account for it in their FTP client settings.
  • Create additional FTP users (see Creating FTP Users).
