Domain Renewal and Redemption

Your domain registration will eventually expire. Learn how to renew your domain or recover it from redemption directly from your Liquid Web account.

Domain names can only be registered for a limited number of years (anywhere from 1 to 10 years). That means you’ll need to renew your domain when the registration period expires. If you miss the renewal deadline, your domain will go into Redemption, meaning you have a short grace period to renew that domain name before it released for others to register (Note: the registrar often charges a much larger fee for Redemption than for a standard Renewal). The process is the same for both Domain Renewal and Redemption and can be performed from your Liquid Web account.

Renewing a Domain Name

  1. Login to your Liquid Web account. For more information on accessing your Liquid Web account, see Exploring Your My Liquid Web Account.
  2. At the left of the screen, click Domains list.

  1. To renew an active domain, click the Renew button to the right of the domain name. If your domain is in Redemption, click on the Redeem button. (Note: the domain name was removed from the example image).

  1. Select the number of years for which you would like to renew the domain (default is 1 year). Select WHOIS Privacy Protection if desired. Enable Autorenew for the domain if desired.

  1. Confirm that you’ve selected the desired options and that the cost for the order is correct. To submit the order, click Submit. You should see a confirmation message in just a few seconds.

Domain Redemption

If you miss your domain renewal deadline, your domain will go into a grace period known as Redemption. While the domain will no longer resolve, it is possible to redeem a domain name during the redemption period to get your website working again. Follow the steps above to redeem/renew the domain.

NOTE:
It may not be possible to renew a domain name if the Redemption period expires. The domain name will be released to the general public and someone else may register the domain name, making it impossible for you to register and use the domain name for your website.
