Setting Up Your Cloud VPN
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) uses encryption to secure your computer’s connection to the Internet and guarantees that the data you’re sending and receiving to Liquid Web’s network is secured from the prying eyes of a third party. Liquid Web offers a free VPN user with every account.
Your Liquid Web VPN will secure and encrypt inherently insecure communications such as HTTP, FTP and SMTP to the Liquid Web network, even if you are using an untrusted public network. Once you’ve logged into your Liquid Web account, follow the steps below to create a VPN user.
There are three steps to setting up your Cloud VPN:
Create your VPN
- Click on the Network menu in your portal home page.

- Under Network, click on Cloud VPNs.

- The creation page for Cloud VPN will open.

- Select the region for your Cloud VPN (this would generally be the default region for your VPS servers).
- Select the number of VPN Access users you want (one is provided for free).
- Select the domain name to use for your VPN (NOTE: the domain name is for organizational purposes only and does not impact functionality. We suggest vpn.mydomain.com or just mydomain.com where “mydomain” is the primary domain on your account).
- Next, click Create Cloud VPN.
- A pop-up will appear to confirm that you want to create a VPN. Click Create Cloud VPN to confirm.

- You will be directed to the VPN Dashboard to create users or change the number of users who can access the VPN.
Add a user to your VPN
- From the Cloud VPN Details page, click Add Cloud VPN User to add a VPN user.

- Enter the details for a new user or click Enable Existing User to choose an account user you have already created in the portal.

- Click Create VPN User.
- A green success bar will appear to show that the user has been added. The user will now be listed under Cloud VPN Users along with their status, whether they have Two Factor Authentication enabled (the “Security” setting) and the IP associated with the VPN. Two Factor Authentication is required for VPN access.
Configure Your VPN
Depending on your operating system, the instructions to configure the VPN client will vary. Below are the most common operating systems used. Click on your operating system to see the instructions to configure and connect with your Cloud VPN.
